The apa (area of environmental protection) of Jericoacoara has been transformed into a National Park in 2002, getting the maximun status by environmental protection.
The National Park of Jericoacoara is located in the municipalities of Jijoca de Jericoacoara and Cruz, on the west coast of Ceará, Northeast Brazil, with an area of 6295.00 (ha).
The National Park is approximately 200 square kilometers, is located up to a limit east the Prea Beach and the western limit the village of Guri.
The Beach of Prea is part of the National Park, about the 33% of its total area.
The main objectives of Jericoacoara National Park is to protect the coastal ecosystem of the region and ensure the preservation of its natural resources. The National Park is controlled by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources and IBAMA that have an office in the village of Jericoacoara.
